Marie Hopperstad has been awing audiences with her powerful and soulful voice since she was able to talk.  Don’t let her petit size fool you, her voice is bigand she is frequently approached with comments like “how does that voice come out of you!”  She began studying music at 5 years old when she heard Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata for the first time.  Marie knew at that point that she wanted to be able to express herself through music.  She spent her early years studying piano, singing in choral groups, performing in musicals and taking every opportunity that she could to perform for live audiences.  During her studies at the UCONN she performed the National Anthem at several UCONN Men’s Basketball games and almost all of the UCONN Men’s home hockey games.

Over the past 10 years Marie has been singing professionally with several popular acoustic, funk, dance and wedding bands. She has extensive experience entertaining people in a variety of settings from small intimate clubs to weddings and large public performances.  She has sung in some of the best rooms, the Atrium Lounge at Foxwoods and the Cabaret Theatre at Mohegan Sun.  Her influences include artists such as Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Susan Tedeschi and Joss Stone.  Marie loves performing all genres of music from classic rock to R&B.  The only requirement that she has is thatany song she performs must move her audience either physically or emotionally.  Marie is extremely excited about joining the talented guys of The Nu Groove.
